| Deadly Night During Flooding |
Sat. May 1st 2010
As several severe tornado's and severe storms approached Saline County and the City of Bryant, the Bryant Police Department received an assistance call of a person trapped in a culvert which is flooded. Officers arrived and found several people trying to get this person out and unable to. Several police officers and others who were arriving quickly attempted to save this individual, by holding this person above water. Officers immediately called for T-32 and Chief 80 to respond for assistance. As we were responding, another person was pulled under the water, thru the culvert and out the other side. Collegevile Volunteer Fire Department had arrived and contact Chief 80 as we were responding and advised us to prepare for a water rescue. Just prior to arriving, the person that was trapped was swept under the water and thru the culvert. We are sad to announce that with every attempt to save the individual in the water, the water was so violent and swift, that all rescue personal were unable to hold on and was swept under the culvert. Crews quickly went across the road and located the individual in the water and began CPR. Med-Tran arrived and transported to the closest hospital where he was pronounced. The Bryant Fire Department and Police Department ask that you keep this family in your prayers and thoughts during this extremely tragic night. We also ask that you pray for the officers and members that were on scene as this was an event that we will never forget.
